2016 is an exciting year not only for videogames in general, but especially for the PS4. If you haven’t yet picked up the top selling console of this generation, 2016 is definitely the year to do it. From the games to the peripherals to the fact that everyone else is already playing it, it’s hard to find reasons not to pick up a PS4 this year. Since its more fun this way, though, here are the top 8 reasons why you definitely should get a PS4 in 2016.
The Price Drop
The Xbox One has finally dropped to about $50 lower than the PS4, but analysts and industry experts are predicting a PS4 price drop in the very near future… And one of those experts is a top Xbox exec! If past trends are anything to go by, the PS4 should be seeing a $50 price drop in the next few months.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Arguably one of Sony’s biggest exclusive franchises, Uncharted was missed by a lot of Xbox gamers last-gen, but there is no better time to join in on the fun. The first three games were just re-released for the PS4 in preparation for what promises to be the best Uncharted of them all… Dramatically subtitled A Thief’s End, Uncharted 4 is just around the corner.
PS VR
It’s been hard to escape the hype surrounding the first true consumer friendly virtual reality experience, which is coming exclusively to the PS4 later this year. Everyone who has tried PSVR loves how fluid and comfortable it feels, and it’s likely to be one of the most important console peripherals released since the lightgun for the NES… so you won’t want to miss it.
The Last Guardian
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were as much works of art as they were videogames, and developer genDESIGN is finally ready to release their next-gen experience later in 2016. The game looks absolutely gorgeous, and if it’s anything like its spiritual predecessors, it will absolutely blow your mind.
To Play With Your Friends
We talked about sales earlier, and that’s because numbers don’t lie. The PS4 has wildly outsold the Xbox One, meaning your gaming friends are more likely wielding a DualShock 4 than slogging through Halo 5. Since online multiplayer is bigger than ever and since its always good to have a wingman, consider picking up a PS4 just for the social aspect.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Post-apocalyptic. Open world. Robots. Dinosaurs. Survival… Do any of these words appeal to you? All of them apply to probably the biggest and most ambitious new IP to grace consoles in a long while. Horizon Zero Dawn is combining classic gaming elements with a unique and fascinating setting, and the result looks incredible.
Gran Turismo Sport
If you want a good game to play with a racing wheel and PSVR headset, you can’t go wrong with GT Sport, which takes every ambitious experience the PS4 is introducing and combines them into a gorgeous and immersive experience unlike anything we’ve ever seen. If you’re even remotely interested in cars or racing, you won’t want to miss this one.
More of The Same Reasons You Should Have Gotten One in 2015
The console war is essentially over. With the PS4, Sony proved from the jump that they know what gamers want, and they’ve provided it consistently over the console’s (still relatively short) lifespan. It’s hard to find anything to complain about when looking at the PS4, especially when you consider everything new that’s happening in 2016.
I’m Nate, PS4 gamer and freelance writer from Denver… I like to game, obviously, as well as hike and camp and all of that stereotypical stuff! My favorite game of all time is GTA: San Andreas, but I love playing Diablo 3 with my girlfriend!
