With Sony’s PlayStation 5 due to hit shelves in just a matter of weeks, we’re getting a clearer and clearer understanding of the titles that are going to be released.
The Japanese company revealed the design and specifications of the device earlier in the year. The PlayStation 5 will have an impressive octa-core AMD Zen 2 processor, 16 GB of memory, and a graphics processor that can calculate 10.28 TFLOPs.
This power means that any game that is designed for the console will be a huge step up on those available on the PS4.
So if you’re wondering which games you should be getting excited about, here are some of the best titles that have been confirmed for the PS5.
Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War
Call of Duty will be released in November, as has now become a tradition for the franchise. The new game will feature something different to previous games, being set during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
The official trailer for the game shows off some of the new graphics capabilities of the console, with ultra-realistic recreations of Ronald Reagan, who is a key character in the game.
Like many games, Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War will be available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, though those with the version for the new console will get to enjoy the better graphics and some other exclusive perks.
Grand Theft Auto V
Despite being originally released seven years ago, Rockstar Games announced that it will be remastering and re-releasing Grand Theft Auto V for the PlayStation 5. It won’t be available to play at launch. Instead, it will go on sale sometime in early 2021.
This will be the third generation of console that the game has been released on and the second time it’s had its graphics enhanced and upgraded.
It will feature all of the existing updates, including the incredibly popular Diamond Casino & Resort, which lets players wager in-game money on casino favorites, including popular wheel-based games like roulette. In addition, players will get to enjoy new features and perks, though details are a little vague as to what these are at the moment.
A stand-alone free-to-play version is also expected to be released for the PlayStation 5, though it will still require a PlayStation Plus membership.
Madden NFL 21
Unlike some other sports games from EA Sports, Madden NFL 21 will not be an upscaled PlayStation 4 game. Instead, the game will only be available on the latest generation, bringing new features.
As well as all the usual action on the field, players can enter The Yard mode, which EA describes as being inspired by “backyard football”, where you can play with freer house rules.
Players will also have more control over the moves they make on the pitch thanks to the Skill Stick feature, which allows them to use the analog sticks to create unique maneuvers.
As with all PS5 games, Madden NFL 21 contains graphics that are a significant step up on previous generations. At a quick glance, you may even mistake them for real life.
Astro’s Playroom
Astro is a cute little robot that first made an appearance in the VR Playroom, showing players the features of the PlayStation VR.
He returns to the PlayStation 5 in Astro’s Playroom, which will be preloaded onto all consoles when they ship. The game won’t take long to complete though. It’s designed to help players to familiarize themselves with the new features of the haptic feedback DualSense controller.
Nonetheless, this platform-style game looks less a tech demo and more like a fun way to explore the new hardware.
There are plenty of other great titles coming to PlayStation 5 when it launches in the coming weeks, but these games stand out as some of the highlights of what gamers have to look forward to playing when they get their hands on a console.
