A list of some must-play games spanning the entire PlayStation library (PS1 – PS4) It could be argued that horror for console gaming didn’t really even come into its own (as a “thing”) until the original PlayStation arrived. Up until that time, there really weren’t that many truly “scary” mass-produced titles out there…at all. Of course, once people got a glimpse of experiences like the original “Resident Evil”, it was all over. The cat was out of the bag at that point and things would never be the same. Since that time, countless amazing horror games have been released for…
Driveclub Review
What do you get when you merge an arcade racer, a simulator with social features on an all-around accessible platform? If you said Evolution Studios’ “DriveClub”, you’d be right on. Despite the fact that game looks fantastic (it really does, that isn’t just hyperbole) and it does everything a modern driving game SHOULD do (while also maintaining the ability to appeal to veterans as well as casual gamers), some don’t seem to be all that impressed. Perhaps it’s the return to a somewhat simpler focus, rather than bathing everything in effects and inserting explosions? Whatever the reason, DriveClub is a…
FIFA 15 Review
EA’s FIFA video game franchise started way back in 1993, since then we’ve received an annual release. The series has cemented itself as the most liked and played football simulator, although Pro Evolution has at times, posed as a great alternative. FIFA 14 was the first football (soccer) title to release on the PS4, which has set the building blocks for next-gen, and what a gem it was. One thing we didn’t have was something to compare it to; PES 14 skipped a PS4 or XBOX One release. However, this will not be the case with PES 15, which will…
5 Huge Titles Coming in 2015
With 2014 now coming to a close, not to forget we’ve still got big titles incoming soon (GTA V, COD: Advanced Warfare, etc), it’s about time to take a look at which huge titles will be heading to PS4 in 2015. If you thought this year has been good so far, you’d best take note of what is set for a huge next year release. Like with any console release, you often see many stellar titles arrive after the first year of release. What does this mean? If you’ve loved your PS4 gaming experience so far, you’d best get ready…
Release after release, EA’s FIFA juggernaut rolls forward, like an organism with intent whose sole intent is to forge a more realistic football (soccer) gaming experience. Basically, as it stands, the word is that FIFA 15 is actually going to be a reskin of 13…of sorts. As anyone with an ear to the ground in the video game industry already knows (or should), this upcoming iteration is due to add the same sort of incremental improvements that the series is known for. Most notably however is that you should anticipate the next / 8th generation versions to pack much more…
Whatever initially pulled you in to strike up interest in “The Order: 1886” (developed by Ready at Dawn and SCE Santa Monica Studio), whether it be the game’s decidedly steampunk stylings or the overall intrigue of the title’s plot, it cannot be denied that this is a highly interesting new IP. Simply put, there really aren’t that many companies making games which delve into the same sort of territory which this game is set to explore. You basically have a story-driven narrative which is displayed in a linear fashion utilizing third-person shooting mechanics. Certainly this is nothing new, but in…
Of all the different consumer groups, gamers are a very particular and knowledgeable sect that’s often hard to please. Moreover, gamers tend to demand progress in various areas from leading companies whereas other types of consumers really don’t. Perhaps you could chalk this up to the relatively youthful status of the video game industry in general, but it likely has something more to do with options and access. Simply put, people who love games want as many options available at any given time and complete, unfettered access to as many pieces of software as possible. Say what you like, reason…
Giotek is a company that’s known for producing aftermarket accessories and peripherals for video game consoles. Needless to say, they tend to regularly release products which range from being fairly conventional to the unexpected and fantastic. Recently, Giotek announced the impending release of their upcoming line of products for the PlayStation 4, which has a lot of gamers exciting to say the least. These offerings include no less than 15 items, covering all the basics. Of course, what makes Giotek’s stuff so interesting is that they always seem to find a way to incorporate all the basic features one needs…
This year’s E3 event (2014), held June 10-12 in the Los Angeles convention center, has (so far) been a wonderful showing for many of the entertainment industry’s top companies. Of course, it was a particularly thrilling experience for PS4 owners and Sony fans, which were treated to so many amazing developments, reveals and releases that it’s almost too hard to believe. We’re not just talking about great games here either, but all sorts of honest-to-goodness hardware and technology teases which were impressive enough to make your head spin. Let’s take a closer look, shall we? Destiny + the PS4 bundle…
There was a time when the idea of using headsets with video game consoles wasn’t even considered. In those early days of video games, sound wasn’t actually even that important a factor (most titles featuring very abrasive and somewhat limited 8-bit soundtracks). Naturally, over time all of this has changed. These days, the average gamer expects fully-detailed, multi-layered, complex HD audio, replete with stunning effects, atmospheric noises and a marvelous soundtrack. Traditionally, most people will opt to play their games on a large system that features an integrated surround sound system; however, it’s not always possible (or desirable) to go…
We live in a completely new age as far as video games are concerned. Things just aren’t quite as simple as they once were and technology, entertainment, art, communication and commerce are melding together in new and exciting ways. Understandably, this has also altered the way console manufacturers approach general design. The last generation (7th) was when the use of connected camera technology really came into its own via the PS3 and Xbox 360; however, with the 8th the likes of the PS4 and XB1 have taken things to an entirely new level altogether. If you’re looking for specific reasons why…
While it’s certainly true that OEM (original equipment manufacturer) hardware is nearly always preferable over after market products (especially within the sphere of the video game industry), it’s hard to avoid the temptation of buying 3rd party gear. The PS4 is set to be perhaps the most advanced console released to date and not surprisingly, a number of companies are lining up to present their compatible products, audio headsets being just one facet of this trend. The recent problem that’s cropped up though contends that many headsets which connect via USB or Bluetooth will not be compatible at launch. Rest…

There’s something to be said about stair-stepping development, especially when it comes to consumer entertainment-related goods. Even in the days before digital electronics you’d see a company release a product only to either revise or overhaul the entire design a short time later in order to make it smaller, sturdier or perhaps more efficient. In this respect things haven’t really changed all that much in terms of the way business is done; after all, people still want to get the maximum bang for their buck and will always be interested in design improvements for some of their favorite devices. The…
