Whenever introduced to developer Ready at Dawn’s upcoming action-adventure title “The Order: 1886”, the first thing that strikes most people is the game’s setting and style.  In short, 1886 is a game that incorporates steam-punk visuals and Victorian-inspired clothing and architecture amidst modern weaponry and a slightly sci-fi backdrop.  The game itself is set in an alternate history of course, one in which a so-called “old order of knights” keeps the world same from monsters.  Of course much is still unknown with regards to this game’s development, and with its release date being unannounced and in 2014, anything could happen…

With another fine Christmas season barreling down upon us (and in the midst of a new console launch no less), holiday-themed programming is what’s on the menu.  Since the PS4 also doubles as a dedicated Blu-ray player why not give it a spin with some Christmas-themed film favorites? Many of the following movies aren’t what you’d call “traditional holiday fare”, but are perhaps set in and around the Christmas season.  Quite a few of the selections here are designed to suit the season though, we thought it best to try and cover all of our bases from family-oriented heartwarming stories…

Technological progress tends to come with a variety of other issues or shortcomings.  As far the PS4 is concerned, the size of certain impending games might register as a problem for some people.  Given that the standard PS4’s hard drive is going to be 500 GB (a fairly large drive to say the least) and the demands of the Blu-ray format, the need to upgrade might quickly become an avenue worth exploring.  Just imagine installing several 50 GB games, soon enough your entire hard drive is packed with data. Naturally, the next logical step here would be to just upgrade…

Prospective next generation gamers were somewhat disappointed by RockStar’s recent announcements stating that they have no plans to bring GTA V to the PS4 or Xbox ONE, but you know how that works – things often change very quickly when money’s on the table.  Given that Grand Theft Auto 5 is such a monumental hit, it only makes sense for people to assume that it’s eventually going to find its way onto a platform like the PS4, it seems…like an eventuality.  After all, someone did find a reference to the PS4’s codename “orbis” buried in the code of GTAV, so…

Scanning the headline above, the uninitiated might be prone to think that it refers to some famous celebrity needing to be more mindful of where they’re walking late at night after several drinks.   All puns aside, we’re talking video games here, not “awareness of local hazards” and it’s pretty obvious at this point that RockStar certainly seems to have some stiff competition in the new IP, “Watch Dogs”. Having more or less rose to the pinnacle of achievement for open world game development, RockStar games is most well-known for its mega-successful “Grand Theft Auto” franchise.  Throughout the course of the…

It’s no great secret that the PS4 might very well become perhaps the greatest console released in the history of gaming (up to this point), it does have the features, character, velocity and industry behind it pushing everything forward.  What many might not realize however is that the PS4 isn’t just a dynamite gaming machine, it’s also a vibrant home entertainment solution which might even be able to double as a substitute internet portal.  Seriously, with the PS4’s multitasking abilities (or being able to handle several applications, including a game, at once) the possibilities seem to be nearly limitless.  Here…

It’s often been said that a video game console is only as good as its top-tier titles.  Or, to put it another way; regardless of how technical and amazing your computer hardware is, without a few big games that can really show it off it’s just not that interesting.  Needless to say, the PlayStation brand has had no shortage of great titles in its catalog.  From incredible multi-console ports to exclusives, each PlayStation console has had its very own mega-hits which helped to shape user experience with each machine.  Moreover, most of these games happened to be launch titles, which…

Over the course of the last 5 – 10 years we’ve seen monumental shifts within the video game industry.  In fact, technology in general seems to be growing, evolving and shifting on an unprecedented scale; naturally, one of the most immediate areas where this can be felt is in the area of console design. As far as Sony (or even Microsoft, for that matter) is concerned, their PS4 is a stunning achievement, and rightly so; it…

The “Thief” series is one which spans multiple titles, platforms and development studios, through it all however, the basic aim of the franchise remains unchanged – to deliver exciting stealth / action gameplay.  However, rather than being a by-rote plunge into the past, the Thief universe firmly plants itself into shall we say, “steampunk” territory.  The end result is that you’re left with a format which is at once fresh as well as intriguing. The latest entry in the series, which is well on its way to completion, is nothing less than a full reboot of the entire series.  But…

While the Nintendo dynasty is often seen as the driving force behind the movement to put video game consoles in every home, it could be argued that it was Sony’s PlayStation that truly turned the world on its ear.  Up until that time, if you wanted to play a video game you were either plugging in some old relic which could only display a few solid colors and crude pixilated shapes on screen at a time or taking a trip down the street to the local arcade.  However, when consoles came onto the scene they made it possible for a…

You’d think that Japanese consumers would get the PlayStation 4 first, right? After all, Sony is Japanese. However, there are still many hardcore fans that prefer to take the traditional option. Pre-orders for the PS4 begin today in Japan, and you’ll already find a queue starting to form (4 months before release) at many of the gaming shops for those wanting to get their name down first. What new possibilities will be opened to game developers with the PS4? Also, what innovations might we expect within future video games as a result? Much has already been written about the somewhat upgraded “approachability” of the PS4 where game production is concerned.  The common understanding here is that the PlayStation 4 is going to be a much more “friendly” platform for game developers to work with.  In other words, there seem to be far fewer barriers to surmount – starting from the point where you’re staring at a completely blank slate, moving through the final processes and eventually rolling…

(Updated 05/10/2013) Perhaps one of the greatest things about the release of a new gaming console is that you can count on specific bundles to be made available for individual types of gamers.  Admit it, there’s something slightly magical about tearing open that packaging, laying your eyes on the device for the first time, and of course, loading up that initial game.  Even if you’re a fairly “well traveled” gamer, the satisfaction experienced when delving into that fancy new console on the first day of its release seems to conjure up the kind of giddiness you might have experienced as…
