If you own a PS4 and need something new to play but don’t have the hundreds of dollars needed to pick up all the best titles of this holiday season, don’t worry! There are plenty of games available on Amazon (many of them which were released in 2015) that are on sale for a fraction of their original price, and all of the ones listed here are a ton of fun to play! So whether you just got a PS4, are running low on cash due to the holidays, or missed out on some of the fantastic titles available on the PS4, consider picking up one of these!
Far Cry 4– $23.50
I will put this game at the top of any applicable list, because it’s simply so much fun to play and will immerse you for hours on end. It’s an open world FPS set in the fictional Himalayan country of Kyrat, which is being run by a psychotic dictator who needs to be dealt with. You can choose an all stealth approach or a full-on guns blazing style, you can ride in on the back of an elephant or come from the sky via your wingsuit, and you’ll always have to be on the lookout for tigers, honey badgers and even rhinos- overall, Far Cry 4 was definitely worth $60, so it’s a steal at $23.50
Minecraft– $18.95
If you haven’t bought into the Minecraft hype yet, it’s about time. One of the most popular indie games ever, Minecraft is a sandbox game in its purest form- you’re dropped in a randomly generated landmass and must work to build yourself a nice little settlement to protect yourself from the zombies and other creatures which come out at night. There’s an incredible amount of depth here, and you can spend hours upon hours playing without realizing how much time has passed. Don’t let the graphics throw you off- once you get used to them, you’ll be in heaven.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection– $29.99
The Borderlands series are loot-collecting FPSRPGs with a ton of depth, a hilarious story, and some of the best cooperative gameplay offered in a long time. The Handsome Collection includes both Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel, which both have you facing off against one of the most entertaining villains in video gaming- Handsome Jack. You’ll fight waves of unique enemies, discover billions of unique weapons, and personalize your character to fit your unique play style. Everything about Borderlands is unique, from the cel-shading to the characters and everything in between. The Handsome Collection is definitely worth picking up.
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition– $31.60
If you like gothic fantasy and enjoy the loot collecting RPG elements of Borderlands, you can’t go wrong with Diablo, the series that started it all. III includes both the base game and the Reaper of Souls expansion, as well as all the patches and updates that have brought the game to its current near-perfect state. You’ll be after the titular Diablo, one of the lords of Hell, as he wreaks havoc across the land in an attempt to take over the world with his army of demons. You customize your class and abilities as you search to find more powerful weapons and armor to ultimately beat the game on the hardest difficulty level (which is close to impossible). It’s not for everyone, but if you watch some videos and like what you see, definitely get it while it’s cheap on Amazon.
Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor– $29.30
Shadows of Mordor is a must-play for any LotR fan or really any fantasy lover in general. Combat is a lot like the Arkham games, which is never a bad thing, and you’ll have access to a number of unique powers as you fight through the open world environment that is Mordor, the land of the Orcs. It’s a lot of fun to play and the experience is very dynamic- for instance, when you kill an enemy, he may come back as a sort of “nemesis,” which means he’s going to be harder to kill again and will be more wise to your tactics, forcing you to switch things up. If you want a good single player experience that will keep you occupied for awhile, Shadows of Mordor is a fantastic game to play.
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood– $9.99
For those who want to experience the flavour of a more traditional WW first-person-shooter game, then you’ll want to check out The Old Blood. Of course, it does mix futuristic elements, but this all works fantastically well. For the price tag of just $9.99 you get a lot for your money, in fact, it’s fantastic value. The visuals are impressive and the storyline thoroughly enjoyable. You should also check out the prior release, Wolfenstein: The New Order, which is a more complete game, although has a higher price tag. If you love first-person-shooters and aren’t bothered by no offline features, then this is a must have.
I’m Nate, PS4 gamer and freelance writer from Denver… I like to game, obviously, as well as hike and camp and all of that stereotypical stuff! My favorite game of all time is GTA: San Andreas, but I love playing Diablo 3 with my girlfriend!
