While you may not be done exploring the vast decadent world of Witcher III or enjoying the rush of incredible speeds and stunning beauty in Project Cars all from May’s line-up for great PS4 games. There is even more to look forward to in June. From genetically engineered dinosaurs to the Dark Knight, it will be an action packed month of June.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited
The Elder Scrolls Online was originally released on April 4th 2015 on PC, MAC and SteamOS. It was announced earlier this years that on March 17th the subscription system would be dropped and essentially become Free-to-Play after the original purchase of the game. Along with this announcement came the release dates of the Xbox One and PS4 versions. This has been long awaited by console fans and the action orientated gameplay and combat lends itself nicely to a controller based character control.
This is not the original game with new packaging and some DLC thrown in. ZeniMax has matured this game to where it is almost unrecognizable from its original inception that was released to mixed reviews. Revisiting it is well worth the time with tons of reworked and revamped systems, more enjoyable story and gameplay and fixes to all classes. The surge of players wary of paying subscriptions to just another MMORPG will provide the vibrant online world that fell short initially but is now becoming a vibrant busy world ahead of the pack.
Batman: Arkham Knight
Set one year after the death of the Joker in Rocksteady Studios last contribution to the series, Arkham City. Arkham Knight will be the first release in the next-gen consoles, promising even higher fidelity graphics utilizing the Unreal Engine 3, the same engine used in Rocksteady’s previous entries. Already pushing the limits of the last generation of consoles, it’s exciting to see what they do with the extra horsepower.
The mostly ignored multiplayer portion of Arkham Asylum will not be coming back as Rocksteady has expressed the desire to provide the best possible experience from the story and this should be praised as the right decision. The more resources poured into the single-player experience, the better.
The story brings back previous villains from the other entries all assembled under the banner of the Scarecrow. A toxin released into the city has caused panic throughout the city and the villains ahve easily taken control, the Arkham Knight himself is a mysterious character wishing death upon Batman and will use every tool in his arsenal, similar to Batman’s to bring this wish to fruition.
According to Rocksteady, this is to be treated as the finale of the series. Knowing this, it is expected to see a well crafted story providing closure for this story line and the long running successful IP. If you’ve been a fan of this series since the beginning it is not to be missed, but newcomers should feel comfortable that the story will not rely on previous knowledge of last generation console games.
Rory Mcllroy PGA Tour
EA Sports announced last month that they had a made a mutual decision with Tiger Woods to “part ways”. Rory Mcllroy will be the new face of this long lasting annual release of the popular golf series. This could be an indication of a reset of the series especially since for the first time their was no release last year.
Also the Frostbite Engine is being introduced to the game and will up the ante when it comes to realistic real world courses, powerful physics model and generally an upgrade in anything from individual blades of grass to details on the golfer’s shoes. This is also the first release on the newest generation of consoles.
EA Sports has been short on details and in the end very little is known about new game mechanics or features. It is yet to be seen if this will be revolution or more evolution, but it seems all signs are pointing to a much needed reboot to the mostly formulaic series. This promises to be exciting for golf fans and gamers alike ready to hit 18 holes from the safety of their couch while enjoying beatiful visuals provided by the new tools and hardware utilized by the developers.
Other games due for release in June include: Onechanbara Z2: Chaos – ‘Banana Split’ Edition, F1 2015, FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward, LEGO Jurassic World, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma EXTEND, Payday 2 Crimewave, RIDE and Final Fantasy XIV Online.
