The upcoming title “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is the third release in the video game series (obviously) which is modeled after the novels of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. In short, it continues and concludes the story of Geralt of Rivia, who seeks to quell the exploits of the evil Empire of Nilfgaard. In case you aren’t familiar with the franchise at all, it’s essentially quintessential medieval fantasy, you know, monsters, goblins and epic quests, etc…the kind of game that RPG fans can really get behind.
What’s new in “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” you ask? Well, perhaps the most interesting news leaked from its developer is that the game will feature a world that’s said to be “larger than any other in modern RPG history.” In fact, initial estimates indicate that the Witcher 3 is going to be at least 30 times bigger than either of its predecessors! Not to worry though as you will apparently be able to travel by horseback as well as sailboat to reach locations more quickly.
While “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is definitely a character-driven game that relies heavily on its story, the world itself will be alive and extremely dynamic. We’re talking about non-linear gameplay inside of a massive world that’s said to be around 20% larger than that of Skyrim, so there are plenty of reasons to get excited. Obviously, a great deal of emphasis has been placed on combat, but you’ll also have the chance to interact with intelligent NPC’s as well as engage in commerce and simply soak in the living environment. In other words, this is a title that will hinge on a bevy of player choices, encourage exploration, as well as deliver an intriguing main storyline.
According to its publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” will completely redesign the combat system employed in the first two titles. The goal of course is to create a game that is at once true to what many consider to be a fighting game as well as that of a traditional RPG.
Getting back to its story, The Witcher 3 will introduce an enemy that far surpasses that of the Empire of Nilfgaard. In what is called “The Wild Hunt” ghostly riders (somewhat akin to the ring wraiths in the LOTR universe) return to once again devastate humanity. These apparitions are in search of none other than our hero, Geralt.
Needless to say, this is likely to be a very adequate and inviting title for both dark RPG fans as well as those who enjoy open world games. Currently, the Witcher 3 is set to carry a rating of Mature, which most certainly means that there will be plenty of gore to go around. Look for an official release date announcement some time in the near future, right now it’s scheduled for perhaps an early 2014 arrival.
