If there’s one thing that has been shown to significantly boost both user loyalty and sales for any specific console it is EXCLUSIVES. Naturally, Sony is no stranger to focusing on select special titles that can’t be found on other platforms either, which is yet another reason why 2015 is shaping up to be a landmark year. The following games should be enough to get your juices flowing and here they are, presented in chronological order of anticipated release…
Bloodborne
Bloodborne is a new IP that’s being developed by From Software (the minds behind the runaway hits Dark Souls I and II), which is pretty much reason enough to get a bit excited. However, when you peel back the veneer and take an even closer look at what it has to offer you discover that there’s much more than meets the eye. From an outward perspective, Bloodborne sort of looks and feels like a spiritual successor to that previously mentioned, ever-popular franchise, as it possesses a lot of the same basic gameplay concepts. Moreover, it is also taking place in a dark and mysterious sort of land that’s within the same vein as many other popular medieval fantasy titles. But this one features much more diverse weapons and meticulously crafted gameplay that any others that have come before it. For fans of more challenging third-person action and exploration, Bloodborne is definitely a must-buy.
The Order: 1886
At first glance, The Order: 1886 seems to be just another RPG-ish game that takes solace in its steampunk-ishness and gritty atmosphere. However, if you peer more closely you’ll discover that it emerges from a wholly new creative spot which marries Victorian-era materials with the concepts of alternate timelines and the emergence of monsters. If that weren’t enough to stoke your fires then also consider that lots of attention has been given to the game’s visual appeal, which has been called “extraordinary” by some as well as the core gameplay system. This is one new IP that we’re hoping will turn into something more long-lasting.
Until Dawn
No console library would be complete without one or more standout, chill you to the bone horror titles, right? Well, that’s what “Until Dawn” will hopefully be for the PS4 – a truly memorable and original horror experience that finds new and exciting ways to terrify us. Not only does the title feature some top talent in the writing department, but it also includes performances from well-known individuals in addition to gameplay that is very much “focused on the element of branching choices and decisions”. This is important because a lot of titles just sort of phone it in when it comes to offering up real options to alter the narrative. If Until Dawn even manages to create half a sense of user-controlled fate, this game will likely be incredibly popular. There have even been rumors circulating that this particular game will eventually make use of the VR technology being developed through project Morpheus. Assuming that this buzzy gossip is based in reality then it’s likely to be a completely unforgettable game. …fingers crossed.
No Man’s Sky
If the basic premise of “No Man’s Sky” doesn’t make your blood boil with excitement then there’s probably something wrong with you. Basically, this is the gist of it – you can pilot an interstellar craft, explore planets and just generally explore a procedurally-generated, immense universe that’s teeming with possibilities. By the way, this includes combat, all sorts of planetary predators, space battles and much more. Hands down, this could very well become one of those titles that you end up spending years with; it really does seem to have that sort of potential and staying power. In fact, if the game ends up running as smoothly as anticipated with as many options as promised it might even challenge the mighty Minecraft in terms of overall popularity (at least amongst the PlayStation 4 crowd, that is). You know what, just stick this one on your “must buy” list now…seriously.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Last, but certainly not least, we come to a Sony favorite, the Uncharted series. Needless to say, we’ve been expecting another game from Naughty Dog and co. since the last outing and given that this one is being developed exclusively for the PS4, there’s quite a reason to celebrate. To be completely honest, it seems as if they’re upping the ante in every direction, with improved graphics, controls, combat, and exploration…pretty much everything. Of course those in the know who are already familiarly associated with what the Uncharted series brings to the table this isn’t a real surprise. Just expect this one to be a blockbuster, in that classic AAA sense, with all the expected bells and whisltes.
