Have you ever heard of FuboTV? If not, you’d be forgiven for missing out on it; this sports streaming service mainly serves customers in the US and Canada (as well as Spain, for some reason), providing high-quality sports programming including access to the NBA, the NHL, and the NFL, among others. UK customers can unlock Fubo’s location restrictions by using a VPN, but it’s still a fairly niche streaming service that many haven’t heard of.
If you are looking to use FuboTV, you might well be wondering if it’s compatible with your PS4. Is there, for instance, a native FuboTV PS4 app you can use to stream the service? If not, are there any workarounds you can use to access FuboTV on your PS4? Here’s our guide on whether or not it’s possible to get FuboTV on PS4, and what else you might be able to do to get hold of this promising streaming service in your area.
First: the bad news
Let’s get the bad news out of the way right now. There is no way to watch FuboTV on your PS4 at time of writing; there’s no native app for the console, and as far as we’re aware, no such app is in development either. According to FuboTV’s list of supported devices, you can watch the service the following ways:
- Amazon Fire TV
- Android and Android TV
- Apple TV
- Browser
- Chromecast
- Hisense TVs
- iOS
- LG TVs
- Roku
- Samsung smart TVs
- Vizio SmartCast TVs
- Xbox One
As you can see, although there’s an Xbox One app for FuboTV, there isn’t any PS4 equivalent. This means that if you do want to watch FuboTV on your PS4, you’re going to need a workaround, and it’s not always easy to find one. Happily, you do have some alternatives.
Where else can you watch FuboTV?
The best way to watch FuboTV is, quite simply, to access it via another device. If you’ve got one of the devices listed above – if you happen to have an Android smartphone, for instance, or if you’re an iPhone user (and the chances are you fall into one of those camps) – then you’re better off accessing FuboTV on your phone. Let’s say you don’t want to watch a sporting event on that tiny little screen, though. What options do you have in that instance?
Well, the best thing for you to do in that case would be to screencast your phone to your TV. There are many ways to do this; you can use a Chromecast and hook it up to the USB port on your TV, for example, and some TVs support native screen mirroring in certain apps.
Unfortunately, at present, there’s no way to watch FuboTV by casting your phone to your PS4. While you may find guides online detailing how to do this, many of the apps that connect your Android or iOS device to your PS4 will only allow you to play certain files or channels and won’t let you access FuboTV. There’s simply no way to access FuboTV on PS4 at present, so if you’re absolutely determined to use your PS4 for this purpose, then you are, unfortunately, out of luck.
Does the PS4 support Chromecast?
At present, you can’t hook up a Chromecast device to a PS4. This is because the HDMI input on the PS4 is designed to connect to a display, not an external device, so the PS4 wouldn’t recognise the Chromecast. It might be possible to use an HDMI splitter to connect both a PS4 and a Chromecast to a single HDMI port, which would be something of a workaround, but in general, the Chromecast cannot be used with the PS4, and this goes for any other device that works in a similar way.
The good news is that most TVs have multiple HDMI ports nowadays, and so picking up a Chromecast, an Amazon Fire TV Stick, or a Roku Streaming Stick and then connecting it to the relevant port on your TV should give you the same result as hooking FuboTV up to your PS4. In short, it’s just too much hassle to try getting FuboTV on your PS4, and you’ve almost certainly got better options if you’ve got a TV that’s HDMI-compatible.
Will there ever be a FuboTV app for PS4?
FuboTV has remained silent on the matter of a FuboTV app for PS4, so we can only conclude that it’s not likely the company is currently working on one. This means that for the near future, at the very least, you’re restricted to watching FuboTV on the devices that support it. Again, while sideloading FuboTV on non-supported devices might technically be possible with extensive tinkering, there’s very little reason to do so unless you’re absolutely dead set on not using your smartphone or a web browser for some reason. Take it from us, though; just use your laptop or your phone. You’ll have a much better time.
This has been our guide on whether it’s possible to watch FuboTV on PS4! Unfortunately, this is one of the rare occasions on which we absolutely would not recommend trying to access FuboTV via your PS4; you may find other guides online that tell you how to do this, but their success rate is often spotty at best. Stick to your phone, your laptop, or any of FuboTV’s other supported devices, and you’ll be just fine.
