Have you heard about E3? It’s the Electronic Entertainment Expo, and it happens just once a year. The Entertainment Software Association, or ESA, hosts a huge trade fair in the Los Angeles Convention Center and invites video game publishers, console makers, accessory manufacturers, and a lot of other industry insiders. The 2016 Electronic Entertainment Expo should be particularly exciting for Sony fans, for six specific reasons.
The Suspense
The show technically starts on June 14, but the press conferences from all the big names in the business begin on Sunday, June 12. EA, Microsoft, Bethesda, Ubisoft, and others come first in line. Sony’s press conference doesn’t take place until later in the day, at 6 p.m. Pacific Time on June 13, the second day of the press conferences. That keeps fans in suspense about what Sony might be showcasing this year— and as everyone knows, a little suspense just adds to the excitement.
PlayStation VR
It’s a good bet that Sony will be revealing more about the PlayStation VR. This Virtual Reality system is already slated for arrival in October, and Sony has promised that the VR headset will be far less expensive than the ultra-pricey Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Perhaps Sony will firm up the release date so that pre-ordering fans can know exactly when they will receive their long-awaited virtual reality console accessories. In fact, with pre-orders seemingly in overdrive, PS VR is sure to be one of the major highlights of the event, and for good reason.
PS4 Slim
It’s had a variety of names, from Neo to PS4.5 and beyond. However, many are awaiting intriguingly as to whether Sony will announce something potentially controversial, or perhaps, something ultra-exciting. Whichever side of the coin you might represent, it’s exciting never the less. Don’t expect Sony to alienate current PS4 owners, after all, alterations of a console are common practice – the idea that Sony wouldn’t be ready to make subtle alterations would actually be shocking within today’s world.
God of War 4
Thanks to an information leak, fans have some idea of what “God of War 4” will be like. At E3, Sony will probably reveal the game and provide some confirmation of those leaked details. There’s no doubt that when “God of War 4” does come out, it will use the power of the PS4 to its fullest potential.
Gran Turismo Sport
At a London event, Sony gave fans a teasing glimpse of Gran Turismo Sport. Most likely, the Electronic Entertainment Expo will serve as the ideal venue for a fuller demonstration of the game. In fact, Gran Turismo Sport may be one of the first games to support PlayStation VR— and Sony fans just might get to see both the system and the game in action together at E3. Whilst the release received a mixed response, the final release is on course to re-define the racing genre, and that is sure to be some feat.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
The Call of Duty franchise is extremely popular among gamers from every platform, and whilst the gravitation towards a futuristic environment has faded, Activation has listened. The Call of Duty saga continues with “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.” Produced by Activision, which is now a close partner with Sony, the game is likely to be a big part of Sony’s press conference; so PS4 owners and other Sony fans can get even more excited about playing the next adrenaline-pumping iteration of their favourite shooter game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
There may be another reason for CoD fans to cheer at E3. “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered” is coming, and there may be additional hints and glimpses of that game at the Sony showcase on June 13. Not sure about you, but this is sure to be welcomed by PS4 fans after they’ve taken in all of the exclusive and PSVR details, right? Certainly, it’s a nice extra, especially given the franchise is going back towards a less-futuristic ‘halo themed’ style of gameplay.
The Last Guardian
It’s time we hear a little more about this title, and that’s why we probably will. Yet again, we have another adventure game coming soon, any fans of the genre are sure to ready to find out more at this year’s E3 event.
Dreams
If you’re like me then you might be interested with untested formulas when it comes to a quality game. Dreams certainly ticks this box. Call it what you might, but Sony are ready to enter new territory for the creative minded individual, and this should only be perceived as a good move. Sony are sure to let lose more juicy details surrounding this VR compatible game.
Uncharted 4 DLC
Labelled as one of the best adventure games ever released, many are craving an extension to this end of the series. It makes total sense that we should expect something from Naughty Dog, not just on this front, but perhaps learning more about what happens next for the company.
Naughty Dog
The game developer of, well, some of the best games ever made, Naughty Dog, lives up to its brand name. Introducing us to sly, but awesome clues within previous games is how Naughty Dog often goes about things – whether it’s a number plate delivering a secret message to a poster hidden within a level – these hidden clues are often put there for a reason. Now the Uncharted series has come to an end, it’ means one thing, extending another series or creating an all-new franchise. However, The Last of Us seems like an obvious choice, clues included, then comes Crash Bandicoot. Whatever happens, get ready for greatness, after all, it awaits. A double announcement isn’t out of the question, either.
Surprises and shocks
Expect drama, Sony are out to impress fans of the console, and let’s face it, they’ve got a large audience. Complacency isn’t a word usually included within the Sony dictionary; in other words, things might be going well for Sony, but that doesn’t mean that they are ready to turn into a Steady Eddy, rather, Sony will continue to impress as is the typical trend you’d expect from this very company. Fresh and new franchises are sure to be announced, so stay tuned.
You’re probably wondering who can attend the Electronic Entertainment Expo and be one of the first to see some of the ground-breaking, exciting tech that’s coming onto the gaming scene. Only industry professionals are allowed in, so if you want to go, you have to be able to verify that you are a professional in the gaming industry. If you can’t be there, don’t worry! You’ll be able to find plenty of recaps, videos, and information about E3 2016 events online.
What are you looking forward to seeing at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo? Give us a heads-up in the comments.
