In the beginning, there was “Call of Duty.” That original first-person shooter, released in 2003, spawned an entire series of games that brought players right into the perilous action of war. Those early games boasted a gritty, boots-on-the-ground realism and an old-world atmosphere that has proven tough to replicate. Now, 13 years later, yet another chapter of the Call of Duty saga is about to unfold— “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” Here’s what we know about this new PS4 game so far.
-
It Takes Place in Outer Space.
As it turns out, the word “infinite” in the game title is a reference to the “vast expanse of our solar system,” as Activision announced. The game features the United Nations Space Alliance and its struggle against radicals who want control of the human colonies in the solar system. When the trailer for the game first rolled out, fans of the classic Call of Duty style were not impressed. Games set in space have become increasingly common, and some gamers feel that the genre of the space shooter has seen its heyday and needs to take a break. However, there are some undeniably cool aspects to “Infinite Warfare.”
-
You Get to Fly a Spaceship.
That’s right— you’ll be a warship captain out in space. Getting to maneuver a spacecraft is always fun, no matter what game you’re playing. In “Infinite Warfare,” you’ll get to captain a fighter ship called a Jackal and use it to defeat the radical forces that are trying to control Earth and its outposts.
-
You Get to Use Awesome Weapons.
We’re not sure yet what those weapons will be, but it’s a safe bet that they will be quite impressive. Since the game is launching into outer space, you can expect to see big guns on the warships and in the characters’ hands when they’re fighting the ground war on a planet.

It Has a Bonus Game.
The “bonus game” that goes along with “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” is none other than “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.” When it was first announced that Activision was remaking the “Modern Warfare” game, fans roared with surprise and pleasure. For some fans, the CoD series has been moving too far into the future, using technology that just isn’t real; and of course, “Infinite Warfare” itself happens mostly in space. Fans of the classic Call of Duty games are thrilled that Activision is going back to a favorite chapter of the CoD saga. In fact, the brand-new “Infinite Warfare” may even be overshadowed by its older counterpart.

There Will Be Zombies.
If rumors are to be believed, there will be a cooperative multiplayer zombie mode for “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.” Spaceships plus zombies? We’re in.

It Launches in November.
According to announcements, “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” launches on November 4, 2016. Thanks to Activision’s partnership with Sony, PS4 owners get first crack at the downloadable content. If you own a PS4 and you pre-order the game, you can access the downloadable content 30 days before the PC gamers and Xbox One owners are allowed to get it. That’s just one more reason to love your PlayStation 4.
Fans are hoping to see more details about “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” unfolding at this month’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. Sony’s showcase on June 13 at 6 p.m. Pacific Time may include a demonstration or some additional details about the game. Until then, fans will have to console themselves by enjoying some “Black Ops III.”
Which game are you looking forward to more— “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” or “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered?” Vote in the comments.
My favourite gaming console is the PS4, of course, and in my spare time I love to write.
